Each day I go through multiple music submissions from up-and-coming artists, as well as their promoters and fans. I really enjoy a lot of the music I receive, and I’ve decided that the best way for me to post all the songs I like is to share a couple of them at a time, every couple weeks. Check out this week’s featured artists: The Almighty Rhombus - She Didn’t Want Me Website // Facebook Page Jay Allen – Average Website // Facebook Page The Beautiful Word – May Not Be Love Website // Facebook Page Jai Paul x Jonathan Lee –...
As 2011 comes to a close, we thought we would share our thoughts on the best albums of the year. Last year’s top albums list included just ten picks, but with the many genres we cover, we found it far too difficult to narrow the list down to only ten. This year’s list includes our favorite twenty-five albums, composited from a combination of each of our contributor’s own lists. Of course, ranking these albums was anything but straightforward, but after much deliberation, here is what we came up with: 25. Little Dragon – Ritual Union The Swedish electronic band known...
Along with our list of the top albums of the year which will be unveiled tomorrow, we would also like to share our thoughts on the best mixtapes and EPs of 2011. This list was composited from a combination of each of our contributor’s own lists and was narrowed down to our favorite ten. It was hard to pick just ten considering how many great mixtapes/EPs we have all listened to this year, but here is what we came up with: 10. Mac Lethal – North Korean BBQ Mixtape Four years after releasing his debut album under the Rhymesayers record label,...
Nearly a year after announcing they would be collaborating on their first album together, hip hop megastars Jay-Z and Kanye West have finally released their debut project, Watch The Throne. After a few listens through, it appears to me that the duo successfully lived up to the hype that generated when two of the most notable musicians in the world joined forces. Watch The Throne is filled with the iconic flow of both rappers, and it’s easy to recognize that the duo gained strength from each other throughout the process. The album features a long list of accomplished producers, as well...

“Work Out” is the first single off J. Cole’s highly anticipated debut album, scheduled to be released later this year. Up-and-coming Brooklyn rapper Theophilus London dropped his major label debut LP on July 19th. Theophilus has been putting out some great genre-crossing music for a few years, and his latest release is no different. It is apparent after listening to the album, Timez Are Weird These Days (and any of his previous work for that matter), that Mr. London produces his best work when stepping out of the confinements of traditional hip hop. Blending genres is his strong suit, and as with his past recordings, the most compelling tracks on this album are the ones in which he merges his...

The long-awaited LP from throwback rappers, The Cool Kids, finally drops this coming Tuesday (July 12th). This time Chuck Inglish & Mike Rocks bring their classic boom-bap style to fan’s ears with the support of a few heavy hitting cameos from Asher Roth, Travis Barker, Ghostface Killah, Pharrell, and more. Check out the summer anthem “Swimsuits,” one of my favorites from When Fish Ride Bicycles, featuring the always entertaining Mayer Hawthorne in the chorus.
